Wine tasting is considered one of the most popular pastimes in Santa Barbara. With dozens of tasting rooms situated throughout the county (all with outdoor seating!): the urban wine scene is considered to be diverse and offers something for everyone. Below, I have provided a guide to the best wineries and wine tasting rooms in Santa Barbara that are loved by locals. Cheers!

Margerum Tasting Room

Margerum’s tasting room is conveniently located on the edge of the Funk Zone at the Hotel Californian. This winery offers top rated and naturally made Santa Barbara County wines: you will be able to taste anything from a Rhône Blend to a Riviera Rosé. The tasting room itself is very modern, hosts a heated patio, and even offers small bites!

Summerland Winery

This tasting room overlooks the Pacific Ocean and can be found in the charming town of Summerland, only a 10 minute drive from downtown Santa Barbara. Summerland Winery has a very relaxed vibe and produces award-winning wines from vineyards along the Central Coast. This is one of my favorite places to pick up a bottle of non-sparkling rosé and is a short walk away from Summerland Beach!

Municipal Winemakers

Municipal (Muni) Winemakers is a locals’ favorite in the Funk Zone that features funky décor and a retro vibe. Their tasting room has become increasingly popular on the weekends for a young, hip crowd. The outdoor patio in front is great for people watching and their wines are considered bright and approachable – great for those interested in wine tasting for the first time.

Deep Sea Tasting Room

Located on Stearns Wharf, Deep Sea Winery is the city’s only tasting room where you can sample wines directly above the ocean. I highly suggest planning your day right and grabbing a seat on the patio at sunset to enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline and the Channel Islands. The wines offered here are from Conway Family Wines: local and family-owned. Also, feel free to bring a furry friend along for the experience!

Satellite SB

Satellite is the only spot on this list that is considered a restaurant, natural wine bar, and bottle shop all in one! It is situated in the middle of the Santa Barbara’s Arts District and has a great open bar that looks right onto State Street – perfect for people watching! Their wine selection ranges from globally sourced bottles to local winegrowers from Santa Barbara.
