With the summer comes the long days lounging in the sun, relaxing by the water, and enjoying the outdoors. However, the constant exposure to the elements will result in unhealthy hair. This doesn’t mean that anyone should have to give up their time in the sunshine! That’s why I decided to create a hair care guide which provides easy solutions for maintaining healthy summer locks.

Fight the Frizz

The constant exposure to summer heat and humidity can strip your hair of control and moisture. That is why most people have frizzy hair in the warmer months. Try these creative solutions for taming the tangle.

Oil Up – using a double-set wide teeth comb, brush an oil mixture through your ends. The cheapest way is to make your own spray with argan oil and water. Or you can purchase an anti-frizz oil that smoothes hair and adds shine.

Ditch the Tools– at least twice a week, embrace the all-natural look and stop using your blow-dryer, curler, or flat-iron! There are some great, heatless hairstyles you can achieve during that time. If you need help, click here!

Prevent Sun Damage

Having sun-soaked locks can come with some risk to the health of your hair and scalp. Luckily, there are ways to avoid damaging your hair while maintaining that golden style.

Protect the Crown– go out and get yourself a couple of cute hats or headscarfs. It is like using SPF, but for your head! You will be fashionable while also keeping your scalp covered from harmful rays.

DIY Hair Lightener– if you want to achieve a brighter and blonder style– go the organic route. Click here to make your own hair spray which is guaranteed to lighten up your locks.

Avoid Swimmer’s Hair

Dry hair acts as a sponge and will soak up anything it comes in contact with. That is why it is so important to take a few measures in preventing the dreaded “green hair”.

Prep Yourself – try to saturate your strands with clean water or leave-in conditioner before taking a dip. This way your locks won’t absorb as much saltwater or chlorine.

Seasonal Switch – swapping your hair products for those that are clarifying or anti-residue can help with any product buildup and chemicals. Just be sure to deep condition after use!
