I decided to put my own twist on the traditional recipe for an old-fashioned. My homemade, spiced-cranberry old fashioned is guaranteed to fill you with holiday cheer: it is heartwarming and full of seasonal spices. This will pair well with any dinner party, celebration, or after a long day in the office.

- 1 oz spiced-cranberry simple syrup (1 cup water, 2/3 cup honey, 2 cups cranberries, 2 cinnamon sticks, 1 teaspoon allspice)
- 3 shakes Angostura bitters
- Zest from 1 side of an orange
- Splash of club soda
- 1 large ice cube (click here for my favorite ice cube molds!)
- Garnish with an orange peel and cranberries
spiced – cranberry simple syrup: in a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup of water, 2/3 cup of honey, 2 cups of cranberries, 2 cinnamon sticks and 1 teaspoon allspice to boil for 4-5 minutes, or until cranberries start to burst. Set aside to cool. Once cooled, pour syrup through a fine mesh strainer. *syrup can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to two weeks.*
TO MAKE: Add the simple syrup, bitters, and club soda into a rocks glass, then stir. Fill the glass with a large ice cube, add the bourbon, and gently twirl your cocktail spoon to combine the flavors. Add a bit of orange zest over the top, then rub the oil of the orange peel over the rim of glass. Garnish with the orange peel and cranberries.
